Finalists Announced for Showcase Championing Female & Non-Binary Comedians

The 99 Club ihas announced the finalists in their showcase of the comedy industry’s up and coming female & non-binary acts. The showcase will happen at 8pm on Tuesday 7th June at The 99 Club’s flagship West End venue, Arboretum Leicester Square.

The five shortlisted comedians, in alphabetical order, are: Ania Magliano, Lara Ricote, Lily Phillips, Sian Davies and Sikisa Bostwick-Barnes.
The showcase will also feature Juliet Meyers as our MC, and a headline performance from Sara Barron (as seen on Live at the Apollo, Would I Lie To You? and more).

The five finalists will perform 10 mins of their best material to an audience of invited guests and members of the comedy-loving public. There will also be a judging panel of industry professionals, who will award two prizes of £500 and three prizes of £100. Our panel is formed by: Hannah Martin (PBJ Management), James Woroniecki (The 99 Club), Poppy Hillstead (Ebdon Management & Star of Poppy Hillstead Has Entered The Chat), Sophie Chapman (Chapman Talent), and Steve Bennett (Chortle).

The 99 Club has run shows across London’s West End for nearly 20 years. The Club was also able to support artists during times of Covid restrictions with our socially distanced & online shows paying artists nearly £200k in fees. We have also been awarded London’s Best Comedy Club at the Chortle Awards 10 years running, and this year named as UK’s Best Pro Comedy Night in the Chortle Awards.

Past bursary recipients include Sarah Keyworth, Helen Bauer, Sophie Duker, Catherine Bohart, Lauren Pattison and Janine Harouni. These previous bursary recipients have gone on from promising new acts to appearing on the likes of Live at the Apollo, Mock the Week, Taskmaster and Comedy Central’s Roast Battle.

We at The 99 Club are lucky to have a regular roster of brilliant female & non-binary comedians, and are excited to work with many more. We are eager to support emerging talent, and are honoured to provide a foundation for this vital artistic development.
