News: Tiffany Stevenson Makes Cosmetic Surgery Doc

Tiffany Stevenson

Stand-up comedian Tiff Stevenson has received private equity funding to make a documentary which will explore plastic surgery, ageing and our perceptions of women's faces. Production starts this month.

The programme, Uncomfortably Numb, is Inspired by Stevenson's critically acclaimed and award-winning 2012 show of the same name and will combine interviews, animation and stand-up. Stevenson's approach to the topic will incorporate her own journey starting at 18 as a sufferer of body dysmorphia through to becoming an actor and award winning comedian. As she investigates the beauty jargon that baffles us every day, will she unearth why we are so obsessed with ageing and our eternal desire to stay young? Will she succeed in converting the attitude of our next generation of teenage girls?

In a statement Stevenson says: “Sometimes I feel like beauty companies want us at war with our skin. ‘Battle the bulge, blitz spots, fights wrinkles’, it’s this apocalyptic battle and where will it end? Probably with a Mel Gibson film or maybe with a documentary about reclaiming women’s faces made by me.”

A frequent face on television screens, Stevenson has appeared as a panellist on Mock the Week (BBC Two), Never Mind The Buzzcocks (BBC Two) and The Apprentice: You're Fired! (BBC Two). She was a finalist on ITV1’s Show Me the Funny and further television performances include The Office (BBC Two), Absolute Power (BBC Two), Balls of Steel (Channel 4), Only Joking (Sky), Celebrity Deal Or No Deal (Channel 4) and Live With Gabby (Five).

She has made regular appearances on Front Row (BBC Radio 4), MacCaulay & Co (BBC Radio Scotland), 7 Day Saturday & Sunday with AL MURRAY (BBC Radio 5 Live) and has recently hosted The Comedy Club (BBC Radio Four Extra). She is curator and host of London’s legendary stand-up night Old Rope, a weekly showcase of new material from both distinguished and up-and-coming acts.
