Munya Chawawa Fronts Series about Race

Race Around Britain, a brand new 4-part series created, fronted and executive produced by Munya Chawawa, the British-Zimbabwean satirist, comedian and YouTube creator, will launch on YouTube with Episode 1 on 6th December. Munya is best known for his lightning speed social commentary, viral online sketches, and as co-host of Channel 4’s Complaints Welcome.

The series sees satirical sensation Munya heading off on a very personal mission – to educate those in the farthest flung corners of Britain about black culture in the hope that it’s not racism and prejudice causing the racial divide, but in fact a lack of cultural education and exposure. How can you understand what you’ve never seen?

On each leg of his epic journey across the UK, Munya uses his satirical expertise and quick-witted character comedy to open up real, important conversations with different communities about race in Britain today.

At an incredibly prescient time when there is a global clamour for issues around race and racism in our institutions to be properly addressed, Munya focuses his laser-like wit on some of the thorny issues that members of the black community encounter everyday.

Munya Chawawa said: “Race Around Britain is quite literally my baby. It’s made me laugh, it’s made me cry, it’s kept me up till ungodly hours, but it is without a doubt my proudest satirical accomplishment and I’m so excited for the world to see it. Race is a subject many people can feel uncomfortable or nervous to talk about, but everyone loves to laugh - so I wanted to see what happens when you combine the two.  Comedy, to me - is a superpower, and sometimes where sensible conversation fails us, I think it's the only thing that truly helps people understand one another.”
