Darren Harriott Joins Sara Cox for Britain's Top Takeaways

Comedian Darren Harriott will join host Sara Cox in celebration of Britain’s booming home delivery scene which will see five takeaways from the same sector across the UK compete each week. Each order is biked to households in and around Manchester for the ultimate customer critique, before the scores reveal each episode's Top Takeaway.

Announced earlier this year, this brand new eight-part series sees some of the nation’s best-loved independent takeaways battling for supremacy in a fast-food showdown that crowns a different winner each week.

Harriott posted on FB: "I understand working on a show based around food is only going to double my 'Is he Ainsley Harriott’s son?' Google searches but I don’t care!"

Darren who has appeared on numerous TV panel shows including Live at the Apollo, 8 out of 10 Cats and The Last Leg says: “If there’s two things I love it’s takeaways and families, except at around 3pm on Christmas Day with all the relatives fighting over the remote control and that's when I'll be dreaming of ordering in a meal for one. Working on such a unique, fun show with the legendary Sara Cox and getting to know all the families was a personal highlight, I can’t wait for everyone at home to meet them.”

Britain's Top Takeaways (w/t), (8x60’) is produced by Ricochet, a Warner Bros International Television Production UK Company. It was commissioned by Patrick Holland, Director of Factual and Arts and Catherine Catton, Head of Popular Factual and Factual Entertainment. The Commissioning Editor is Patrick McMahon and the Executive Producers for Ricochet are Sarah Thomson-Woolley and Rob Butterfield.

Darren Harriott is also Adam Buxton's latest podcast guest. Adam talks with Harriott about tech gripes and childhood gadgets before talk turns to Darren's childhood in the West Midlands, the events that lead to him leaving behind gang life and his relationship with his troubled father. Listen here.

Harriott once told me that the last thing he does before he goes onstage is "take a deep breath and think to myself “relax”, or sometimes I will say to myself “razzle dazzle” and do jazz hands."

Coming to your screens in January.
