Richard Osman's House of Games Line Up This Week

The contestants facing best-selling author and Alexander Armstrong's Pointless boffin Richard Osman this week are certainly an interesting cross section from the world of entertainment and broadcasting. There's stand-up comedian Chris Washington, Good Morning Britain and Countryfile presenter Sean Fletcher, news presenter Louise Minchin and, yes it really is, former Pussycat Doll Kimberly Wyatt.

I have to say I love watching Twitter while watching the show. It's great fun to watch viewers competing by tweeting the answers and getting exasperated ("Why did you buzz in, you ******* turd?!" "He drew a cat in boots and she couldn’t get Puss in Boots") when the contestants are stumped – I guess that's the modern version of shouting at the screen during Mastermind when /magnus Magnusson was asking the questions.

Comedians have a very good track record in this competition with Angela Barnes holding the all-time record of being the first contestant to win all five episodes on the way to becoming the overall champion.

Stand-ups have, however, also been at the centre of the occasional flurry of controversy. Earlier in this current series, UK-based Texas-born comedian Kemah Bob prompted viewers to wonder if she was using her real voice or putting on a funny accent. Some tweeted that she sounded like a cartoon character, others said they would not be watching the show while Kemah was on. Eventually though she won round most of the doubters with her strong performance, distinctive clothes and smart answers.

We might watch to see who becomes champion, but Osman is always a winner – he is a best-selling author and Steven Spielberg bought the rights to his book The Thursday Murder Club. No wonder he has a smile on his face.
