BBC To Broadcast Kurupting the Industry: The People Just Do Nothing Story

Kurupt FM Hit The Road

A special programme celebrating People Just Do Nothing’s rise from web series to BAFTA award winning comedy and major motion picture is coming to BBC Three in August 2021.

As the Kurupt FM crew prepare to release their first feature film - People Just Do Nothing: Big In Japan - the team behind the cult BBC Three mockumentary series reflect on their journey from the small screen to the big screen in Kurupting the Industry: The People Just Do Nothing Story (1x45’).

Created by and starring Allan Mustafa, Asim Chaudhry, Hugo Chegwin and Steve Stamp and made by Roughcut TV, People Just Do Nothing follows a group of aspiring MCs and DJs as they run pirate radio station, Kurupt FM. The pilot episode first premiered on BBC iPlayer in 2012, followed by five hit series and BAFTA TV and RTS awards for Best Scripted Comedy and their feature film People Just Do Nothing: Big In Japan will be premiering in cinemas from 18 August 2021.

Kurupting the Industry: The People Just Do Nothing Story will feature interviews with Allan Mustafa (MC Grindah), Asim Chaudhry (Chabuddy G), Hugo Chegwin (DJ Beats), Steve Stamp (Steves), Dan Sylvester (Decoy), Lily Brazier (Miche), Ash Atalla (Executive Producer), Jon Petrie (Producer) and Jack Clough (Director). Alongside all this, People Just Do Nothing superfans Clara Amfo, Martin Freeman, Dizzee Rascal and Kurupt FM collaborator Craig David will also share their favourite memories and moments from the series and offer their insights into what has made the show such a success.

Ash Atalla, Executive Producer, says: “With the Big in Japan movie coming out it felt a good time to look back at our People Just Do Nothing story.  And who knows, next year maybe we’ll release a documentary about this documentary.”

Ben Caudell, Commissioning Editor says: It’s the ultimate rags to riches story: the journey that the PJDN gang made from online amateurs to full-fledged professional movie idols is an incredible one and a fascinating insight into how doing your own thing can build to comedy superstardom. Packed with great clips and famous fans, it’s a thoroughly entertaining ride – if you thought documentaries were all about unsolved murders and poisoned fish, think again, here’s a doc you can actually laugh at.”

This is the mockumentary documentary of the century, the rest are irrelevant.

All episodes of People Just Do Nothing are available to view now on BBC iPlayer here
