Comic Zoe Lyons is to front a new competition to help new comedians who have struggled during the pandemic.

Craft beer brand Fourpure has launched Stand Up For Beer, a virtual comedy competition alongside comic and TV regular Lyons. The Bermondsey Brewery is offering a platform to up-and-coming comedic talent to get their voices heard and to guarantee them stand up gigs later in 2021. 

If you think you’re a bit of a side splitter, enter your best original one liner via the Fourpure Instagram account. Followers, as well as a panel from the Brewery team, will vote on their favourite each week. Beginning on the 5th July and running for four weeks, each weekly winner will be invited to a gig with a mate held in the Fourpure taproom along Bermondsey’s Beer Mile (restrictions allowing) where Zoe Lyons - as headline comedian - will tell one of the finalist’s jokes, and they will receive free beer for a year.

All weekly winners will nab a £50 bar tab, enjoy dinner from on-site sausage-maestros Oh My Dog! on the house and have their travel and accommodation all sewn up. And the gigs will be streamed live...

Fourpure and Zoe are also launching ‘Fourpure Presents... Four Funny People’ which will see four up-and-coming comedians chosen to do gigs throughout the remainder of 2021, held both at Fourpure’s taproom and in partner venues. Guaranteed paid gigs with free beer thrown in. 

“More than ever, I think, we all need a laugh right now” Zoe Lyons says. “Over the past year we’ve had gigs cancelled, there’s been no live audiences. The pandemic has taken away what makes live entertainment so important and enjoyable, so I’m delighted to be working with Fourpure in creating opportunities for budding comedians to find their spotlight and give us all the great laughs we so cherish and need as we look to a wonderful, hopeful future of ample live comedy experiences”.
