Broadcaster and comedian Hardeep Singh Kohli sets out to find the next generation of satirical sketch writers in Sketchtopia, with a keen eye for finding the funny in a multicultural Britain.
Traditionally, some of the best UK sketch comedy shines a satirical light on social issues of the time, finding comedy from difficult subject matter or awkward social convention. Sketchtopia aims to make sharp observations about modern Britain and, most importantly, allow shared experiences, common points of reference and authenticity to come together and hold a mirror up to our society and tell us a truth about ourselves.
Established stand-ups & comedy writers from a range of backgrounds will contribute to the series, including Bilal Zafar, Athena Kugblenu, Kai Samra, Anna Emerson, Lizzie Bates, Sadia Azmat and Asmara Gabrielle. Sketchtopia will also feature material from a number of exciting new writers such as Ling Low, Joanna Lau, Waleed Akhtar & Sarah Gibbs.
Perfomers:
Vivienne Acheampong (Rainbow Class, We The Jury, Famalam)
Luke Manning & Paul G Raymond (In Cahoots, The Educatoror)
Nimisha Odedra (Man Like Mobeen, Revolting, Finding Fatima)
Jamie-Rose Monk (Yap Yap Yap, Buttery Brown Monk)
Sketchtopia begins on BBC Radio 4 on Wednesday 4 April at 18:30.
