London-based Italian stand-up comedian Francesco De Carlo has been commissioned to film a new four-part series focussing on moving to the UK during the Brexit negotiations for Italian national broadcast channel Rai3.

With the working title Diary of an Italian Comedian, the partly scripted documentary series will be told through a mix of observational comedy and his real experiences, in which he will sift through the idiosyncrasies of Italian and British society: our differences and commonality, food, alcohol, religion, sex, art, music, theatre and everything that will strike him from his new outsider’s perspective. Filming will take place in the UK and Italy.

De Carlo brings his Brexit-inspired stand-up show Comfort Zone to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe this August (produced by Mick Perrin Worldwide). His Edinburgh show focuses on how as a former political scientist, spending four years working as a press officer at the European Parliament, he grew disillusioned with politics and decided to take a leap of faith last year and move to the UK to focus on comedy. But as Francesco left Italy for the UK, the UK decided to leave Europe.

De Carlo is at the forefront of the new generation of stand ups in Italy. He has won multiple awards and his TV appearances have included four series of Stand Up Comedy and three series of Comedy Central News on Comedy Central Italia. Since his move to the UK, he has starred alongside Great British Bake Off star Paul Hollywood in Paul Hollywood’s Big Continental Road Trip (BBC2) and appeared on Unspun with Matt Forde (Dave).
