The line-up has been announced for the tenth Scottish Comedian of the Year Final, which takes places this Friday, November 25 at Barrowlands in Glasgow.
This year SCOTY has teamed up with Glasgow’s Spirit of Christmas appeal and entry to the event is free for all audience members who bring along either a Christmas Food Bank parcel or Kid’s Christmas Gift (must be unused and in original packaging).
The event’s promoter and founder, Alan Anderson, explains: “Over the past year, many Scottish comedians have closely followed fellow comedian Dave Johns’s ramblings about filming the Ken Loach movie, I, Daniel Blake. The film has made us think. SCOTY started in 2006, this year is its 10th birthday. In those years the Scottish Comedy community has grown and improved massively, so it felt right to do something inspired by Davey’s film. Also, the event is taking place on Black Friday and we wanted to give something to those disadvantaged rather than celebrate American commercialisation and greed.”
The final starts at 7.30pm and is hosted by Des Clarke. The winner gets £1000 and a 2 month trip to Australia to perform at the Perth and Adelaide Fringe festivals.
The 11 finalists are:
