Here are some tasty quotes from the interview
He recently had a python in his house in Australia: “It's a carpet Python. My son came around and went ‘there'a massive snake on the stairs. Brits think there are snakes everywhere, most Australians have never seen a snake in the wild, I mean they're definitely out there but they're not in the cities or anything. Well, that's not quite true. Anyway, but this beautiful python was like trying to get up into our roof. I suspect she lived there actually and we need her because there are mice and various other things. And she’d had a lunch, you could see her lunch. I don't know what it was, it could be a rat because big lunch and I reckon it was seven foot. And she'sabsolutely beautiful. I'll send you a photo, but you know, you get that sort of stuff.”
Apparently wombat poo is very unusual: “Wombats not only do a cube - Not only do they do cube-shaped poos, I'm trying to work out the evolutionary advantage of that is all speculative. Well it's good for towering. They leave their...because wombats are like, ‘You've got a house do you? Well f*** you.’ and it's like they try and dig under that."
Minchin wrote the majority of Matiilda The Musical between coming off tour at the beginning of 2009 and Casper being born. "I sort of went God I owe a draft of this musical and my boy’s coming. The mood is that childhood looks different from the point of view of a child. It looks very different in hindsight. And one of the big feelings you feel about childhood when you're an adult is that it was wasted on you or you wish you knew what you knew now while you were living it.”
