
Comic legend Leslie Phillips has died. He was 98.
Phillips' career stretched from the Carry On and Doctor films right through to voicing the Sorting Hat in the Harry Potter franchise.
He was also famous forplaying upper class fools and lecherous smoothies and was known for his catchphrases, 'Well, Hello', 'I Say' and, most famously 'Ding Dong', which he was often asked to say by fans right up into his nineties.
To radio listeners he was known for the long-running BBC series The Navy Lark.
Phillips was born in Tottenham. He was a lifelong Spurs fan and was not as posh as he sounded.
He was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 1998 Birthday Honours and was promoted to Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2008 New Year Honours.
His autobiography, Hello was published by Orion in 2006.
