April 2022 marks 50 years since the first broadcast of the greatest radio comedy of all time, the antidote to panel games, I’m Sorry, I Haven’t a Clue. With heavy hearts, the Teams’ plans to stage a huge live celebration were dropped after the loss of stalwart player of the game Barry Cryer in January, but a special BBC Radio 4 Archive Hour is being broadcast to mark the occasion, and accompanying it is a new official audiobook release for Audible – the full, authorised story of radio’s greatest laughter bringer, in sound form at last.

Written and performed by comedy historian and comedian Jem Roberts, The Clue Bible was first published by Preface Publishing in 2008, with full approval and participation from Graeme Garden, Humphrey Lyttelton, Tim Brooke-Taylor, Barry Cryer, Bill Oddie, Stephen Fry, Jeremy Hardy, Rob Brydon, Colin Sell and many of the greatest comedians of the last half-century. Telling an epic story which stretches right back to the Cambridge Footlights sixty years ago, the book gives away all the secrets of the show, and of its original madcap forerunner, I’m Sorry, I’ll Read That Again – the ultimate comedy explosion of the 1960s, and the origin of both Monty Python and The Goodies.

In this comedy Bible, all the strange Top Secret mysteries of the cult of I’m Sorry, I Haven’t a Clue are laid bare at last, from Samantha’s biography to the rules of Mornington Crescent. And now, this audio celebration brings the story right up to date, with fresh contributions from both Garden and Naismith – ‘The Clue Bible Apocrypha’ following the last fourteen years of silly things to do, with Jack Dee in the chair.

Performed with verve and wit, with a deep love for the show, there’s no better way to mark I’m Sorry, I Haven’t a Clue’s glorious Golden Anniversary than by tuning in to The Clue Bible on Audible.

“Jem manages to write about popular cultural institutions with knowledge and affection, while avoiding the dismal traps of nerdy fanboyism on the one hand or grandiose cultural pseudo-intellectualism on the other. His research is flawless and the results are readable, illuminating and delightful.” Stephen Fry

“As Bibles go, I reckon THE CLUE BIBLE is among the top two.” Graeme Garden

“An incredibly good job – and he got it RIGHT.” Tim Brooke-Taylor

“His command of detail and knowledge of a subject are second to none. If this is your first introduction to Jem, I envy you." Barry Cryer
