News: Al Murray Wins Award For Charity Support

Al Murray has been named as Celebrity Charity Champion in the Third Sector Awards for his work with blood cancer charity DKMS in 2019.

Murray became involved in the charity when his six-year-old nephew, Finley, was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of childhood leukaemia.

Murray has worked hard with DKMS to raise awareness of the need for more potential blood stem cell donors.

Murray made frequent appeals on television and at his gigs. It has been estimated that Murray has found potentially lifesaving donors for at least 70 people. His nephew Finley is one of those who has found a match.

Adam Kay was highly commended in the same category for his work with The Lullaby Trust

The other finalists were Chris Tarrant (The Stroke Association), Jason Isaacs (British Red Cross) and Elaine Paige OBE (The Children’s Trust).
