News: MAXXX Back This Autumn

Update: MAXXX will start on C4 on Thursday, October 29 at 10pm.

O-T Fagbenle (Black Widow, The Handmaid’s Tale, NW) is set to return to Channel 4 in comedy Maxxx this autumn.

The writer and director (and Craig David lookalike) also fronts the show as a formerly famous boyband star who tries to make his comeback in a bid to win back his famous supermodel ex-girlfriend Jourdan Dunn and prove to the world that he isn’t a washed-up old has been.

To get his career back on track Maxxx enlists the help of his cousin-slash-superfan-slash-stalker Rose (Helen Monks - Raised by Wolves, Upstart Crow), and tries to convince his former manager Don Wild (Christopher Meloni –The Handmaid’s Tale, Oz) to take him back. But Don has other ideas and recruits the help of wannabe manager Tamzin (Pippa Bennett- Warner – MotherFatherSon, Harlots). Maxxx is also hunted by Lucky (Javone Prince – Phone Shop, The Javone Prince Show) who is Maxxx’s former bandmate.

The series started airing earlier this year on E4 but was then removed from the schedule during the lockdown. In a statement to British Comedy GuideFiona McDermottChannel 4 Head of Comedy, said when it was withdrawn: "In these extraordinary times everything is changing rapidly and we are responding to our audience's evolving viewing habits; therefore we've decided to relaunch the broadcast of the full series of Maxxx to later this year. We champion brand new comedy and are incredibly proud of this show."

BTJ has seen the first episode and it is pretty good in a music-biz comedy-of-awkwardness sort of way - imagine if David Brent had been in a sexy boy band...
