News: Margarita Pracatan Dies

Cuban musician Margarita Pracatan has died. She was 89.

She was still posting music and exercise videos in recent weeks and tweeted about celebrating her birthday earier this month: "Beautiful people, beautiful sunset, beautiful night on my 89th Birthday! Let’s do this year with all the power of love"

She became famous in the UK after she appeared a number of times on TV shows fronted by Clive James.

She was a popular figure and appeared at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival where her idiosyncratic uncategorisable mix of music and comedy made her a cult star.

When Clive James died last year Pracatan paid tribute to him, tweeting: "Saying goodbye is so shocking. Makes you quiet rewinding the memories. So many. Years and years of that intelligence and the talent and beautiful way of living, always to do excellence [sic]. Thank you, #CliveJames from the bottom of my heart. You live forever with us.”

James remained a big fan. He once said: "She never lets the words or melody get in her way. She is us, without the fear of failure."
