Mark Rylance is to play the lead role in a comedy about golf written by comedian/actor Simon Farnaby. 

Rylance will play Maurice Flitcroft in The Fantastic Flitcrofts, which tells the story of a golfer who qualified for the 1976 British Open Golf Championship and then shot the worst round in Open history, making him a folk hero. 

Craig Roberts is directing the film. Horrible Histories regular Farnaby (Paddington 2) previously co-wrote the book, The Phantom of the Open, with Scott Murray, which also told the story of Flitcroft.

Farnaby is clearly slightly obsessed with golf. He was also in a sketch show with Waen Shepherd called The Peterford Golf Club and later made a radio pilot with the same name.
