News: Just The Tonic Comedy Club Goes Online

One of the most esteemed comedy clubs across the UK, Just the Tonic is attempting to bring back the comedy club experience to millions of people currently doing the right thing by staying at home with new LIVE comedy night via the newly launched Just the Tonic TV.

Just the Tonic founder, director, and sometimes compère, Darrell Martin will host a virtual comedy gig straight from his spare room featuring Britain’s top comedians. Starting on Saturday 9th May, Darrell invites the public to create their own watch parties because comedy is always better with mates and join Jon Richardson, Matt Forde, Naomi Cooper, Darius Davis, Paul McCaffrey and Phil Ellis and others in the closest to a live gig experience as they can muster. Darrell promises an evening complete with a pre-show playlist, comedians chatting, an opportunity to heckle via Twitter, and inevitably, the chaos of a live show combined with the chaos of doing it completely remotely.

Darrell says: ‘We love stand-up comedy, but we also like not spreading any lurgy. So we are doing our best to bring comedy to the home. We are getting to grips with new technology, with looking at people in their front rooms, and learning to laugh without a crowd around us. This will be raw, it will be fun, it won’t be straight stand-up, but it will be funny, for the right or wrong reasons’

The gig will be streamed LIVE only. It can be viewed on phones, tablets, desktops and via Apple TV. But once it is done, it will be gone. You just had to be there. The show starts at 9pm, but you can log in around 8.30pm to get settled in, sort the drinks & snacks out and have that pre-show catch up with a specially selected playlist.

Just the Tonic began in Nottingham over 25 years ago and has become one of the most respected comedy venues in the country, playing host to countless up-and-coming comics as well as the most established names throughout the UK. Just the Tonic is now one of the leading comedy venues in Birmingham, Leicester, Nottingham, Reading, Watford, as well as leading iconic venues at Leicester Comedy Festival and the mighty Edinburgh Fringe.

With past performers including the likes of Ricky Gervais, Matt Lucas, Al Murray, Bill Bailey, Stewart Lee, Mark Thomas, Simon Pegg, Noel Fielding and Dylan Moran, and with Ross Noble, Daniel Kitson and Johnny Vegas all being regular comperes at the club, there is no wonder that Just the Tonic is expanding once again.
