Comedian Dave Chawner was one of the first on the scene of the Streatham attack on Sunday afternoon.

Shortly after it had happened around 2pm he tweeted: "So sad - I just saw someone get #stabbed in #streatham"

As the incident unfolded he added: "I had to stay with someone who’d just been #stabbed in #Streatham for 30 minutes before a single ambulance arrived. I’m just over 1 mile from a hospital - I’m not having a go at anyone, but that’s not right I just hope he made it."

Chawner's second post prompted a lot of talk on social media about the reasons for the delay in the ambulance arriving. Some blamed NHS cuts, others explained that this was due to standard procedure and that ambulances could not come to the scene until it was considered safe.

The man who carried out the attack was shot dead by armed police at the scene.

Three people were taken to hospital. It is believed that the person Chawner stayed with is not in any danger.
