News: How To Have A Northern Irish Wedding - New Comedy Drama
Love and romance get a Northern Ireland twist, in a brand new six-part radio comedy drama on BBC Radio Ulster, from breakthrough writer/comedian Ciarán Bartlett.

How To Have A Northern Irish Wedding begins on BBC Radio Ulster on Saturday 8 February at 10.30am. It follows twenty-something Belfast ‘Bridezilla’ Sarah (Chloe Hodgens), and her hapless husband-to-be Jack (Brendan Quinn), in planning their very special big day - on a budget.

Interfering mothers-in-law, a roguish best man and a high-maintenance bridesmaid join them on their journey into the weird and wonderful world of Northern Ireland nuptials. Things are about to get sticky for love’s young dream, as Jack and Sarah deal with warring relatives, extortionate hoteliers, and unstable best friends offering unhelpful advice on veils, vows and venues.

This is the wedding show which asks the important questions such as is it OK to have X-Factor-style auditions for wedding singers? Will the guests know the white doves are actually albino pigeons? Can the young couple find a suitable venue and manage to keep the guest list down, all while trying not to get scammed?

However, most importantly, what do you do when the father of the groom starts falling for the mother of the bride?

The series was directed by Eoin O’Callaghan, and also stars Anna Healy as Sheila; Ian Beattie as William; Paddy McDonnell as Paulsy; Sarah McKinley as Aisling, and Maria Connolly as Heather. The narrator is Patrick McBrearty.

Ciarán Bartlett says: “This is a sitcom about planning a wedding in Belfast, and all the weird and wonderful things that entails. It's a warm, broad comedy, with something for everyone. We managed to get together a great crew and fantastic cast and we all had a great time making the six episodes. I hope people enjoy it and see a snapshot of themselves, their family and friends in some of these characters.”
