Comedian Daniel Sloss has launched a GoFundMe campaign to use the annual Christmas Whamaggedon game to raise money for a homelessness charity.
Each year players have to avoid hearing Wham's Last Christmas for as long as possible up to midnight on December 24, which is particularly challenging this year with the George Michael-inspired movie of the same name currently in the cinemas.
The idea is that people playing the game put aside £1 for each day they survive. Once they are eliminated, they donate the money to charity through the GoFundMe page.
Not only does it mean players will be raising money for an amazing cause, but it raises the stakes when they are playing the game. An early elimination will only cost a small amount, but if players survive until Christmas Eve, then the charity gets a £24 donation.
Daniel's original tweet has been retweeted by over 350 people, including Sara Pascoe, Adam Kay and Emma Kennedy.
Daniel himself was knocked out on December 2, although he donated £102 anyway. The money is going to Social Bite. They run five sandwich shops across Scotland and employ people who have been homeless and provide free meals for people experiencing homelessness and food poverty. Their Sleep In The Park campaigns have raised millions of pounds to help bring an end to homelessness in Scotland and they have inspired a global movement to tackle the problem across the world.
Sloss is currently on tour in the UK. The film of his tenth solo show X premiered on HBO in America in November.
