American TV superstar talk show host Chelsea Handler is to play her first-ever live show in the UK at The London Palladium on July 12. Handler is best known for her late-night show Chelsea Lately, which broadcasts on the E! channel.
Handler is currently on tour in America with her show, entitled Uganda Be Kidding Me. She is also the author of four best-selling books, including My Horizontal Life: A Collection of One-Night Stands in which she discussed her sexual past. She also appeared in a sitcom, Are You There, Chelsea?, based on another of her books, which ran for one season. In 2010 she hosted the Video Music Awards – only the second woman to host the awards following in the footsteps of Roseanne Barr.
It has recently been reported that she is quitting the E! network when her contract expires. Handler has hosted the hit show since 2007, but has hinted that she is interested in doing something in the future with a different programme-maker. Handler recently made the news in the UK when she gave Piers Morgan a hard time, calling him a "terrible interviewer" on his US chat show. See the clip here.
The touring show is based on her latest book of the same title and contains travel advice laced with Handler's trademark irreverence, such as her (not to be believed) guide to etiquette, answers on how to dress accordingly in the African bush (after seven margaritas) and how to escape from a German while on crutches.
Tickets go on sale on Friday May 9. Details here. Handler is also appearing in Dublin on July 11.
