News: Killer Of Comedian Jailed For Life

A man who raped and killed Australian comedian Eurydice Dixon has been sentenced to life in prison in a court in Victoria.

Jaymes Todd, 20, pleaded guilty to the violent attack on comedian Dixon in a Melbourne park. Dixon had been on her way home after performing at a nearby comedy gig.

The judge described Todd's crimes as "totally and categorically evil" and went on to say "You waited until Eurydice was well into the dark reaches of Princes Park."

The case prompted anger and greater concerns over the safety of performers travelling home late at night. Comedian Angela Barnes – with the help of many including Sameena Zehra and Pauline Eyre – set up the Home Safe Collective to help make sure that women (cis and trans), people identifying as non-binary and trans men, and members of vulnerable/at risk groups are able to get home safely, especially late at night during the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
