News: Comic Relief Teams Up With Comedy Central UK For New Sketches

Four sketches will take a knowing sideswipe at modern charity fundraising using Comedy Central UK’s ‘Modern Horror Stories’ format, in an effort to encourage a new generation of fundraisers to get involved.

The mini-series will see a weekly video released covering topics such as office ‘fashion week’ fancy dress, leg waxing, moustache growing and the horror of being asked to sponsor someone, all with a ‘Modern Horror Stories’ twist.

The sketches star LUKE KEMPNER (Murder in Successville, Tracey Ullman’s Show, Episodes, Drunk History) NIMISHA ODEDRA (Real Housewives of ISIS, Man Like Mobeen) PAUL G RAYMOND (Black Mirror, The Windsors) JANINE HAROUNI (Winner of Laughing Horse new act of the year 2018 and member of award-winning sketch group Muriel) and GEORGIA MAGUIRE (The Stand Up Sketch Show).

The first series ‘OFFICE FANCY DRESS NIGHTMARE’ recently launched on Comic Relief’s social platforms with the second instalment now live on their Facebook page. The second sketched titled ‘EXTREME OFFICE BAKE OFF’ sees the office charity bake sale reported on as a high-octane sporting challenge. We witness cupcakes pitted against quiche in a fight to be eaten and validate the egos of the amateur chefs in accounting. There can only be one winner…

The show was written and directed by Daniel Audritt and Kat Butterfield and executive producer is Jon Aird.

The remaining two sketches will be released over the next two weeks with the most recent being available to view here

Tom Shennan, responsible for Digital Content at Comic Relief says, “In 2017, we released the comedy sketch ‘A Modern Dating Horror Story’ and it was a huge viral success, racking up a quarter of a billion views worldwide. We wanted to take the power of this format and apply it to the sublimely ridiculous world of fundraising and show that anyone can get involved.”

“Creating hilarious and engaging short form content is an important part of what we do at Comedy Central so it’s great to have teamed up with Comic Relief for this mini-series,” commented Rebecca Hewett, Digital Executive Producer, Comedy Central.” Modern Horror Stories is a great format with themes running it through it that are very relatable to a young audience – these four new episodes will not disappoint!”
