Tributes have been paid to Penny Marshall, who has died aged 75.

Marshall was famous both for her performances onscreen and also for her lauded, trailblazing work behind the camera.

She was a co-star of the hit American sitcom Laverne and Shirley, whihc was a spin-off of Happy Days, and later went on to direct major Hollywood films including Big starring Tom Hanks and A League Of Their Own whihc starred Hanks, Geena Davis, Rosie O’Donnell and Madonna.

Marshall died on Monday night at home in Hollywood. Reports say death was caused by complications from diabetes.
