News: New Video Game Book From Go 8 Bit's Steve McNeil

Steve McNeil, one of the comedians behind the Dave channel's gaming hit Dara O Briain's Go 8 Bit, has written a book charting the history of the video game, entitled Hey! Listen!: A Journey Through the Golden Era of Video Games

McNeil likes computer games so much he took his Nintendo Wii on honeymoon (obviously) and played it so much he damaged an eye and had to wear an eye patch. The locals nicknamed him 'the pale pirate'.

His obsession with video games can be traced back to their golden period from the late 70s to the mid 90s. This book will tell the stories of these video games and their creators, with all their human rivalries and failings. It'll dive into the worlds of Space Invaders, Donkey Kong, Frogger, Mario, Sonic, 3D Wolf, Lemmings and Worms.

It will also answer important questions about the golden age. Questions like: Why did Namco feel they had to change the name of Puck Man to Pac Man because they were worried about graffiti, when Nintendo were more than happy to bring out Duck Hunt...

Hey! Listen!: A Journey Through the Golden Era of Video Games is published by Headline on April 16, 2019. Pre-order here.
