News: Dave Spikey Donates Gig Proceeds To Charity

Comedian, writer and actor Dave Spikey will be performing his latest show Juggling on a Motorbike at London’s Leicester Square Theatre on Friday 28th September as a fundraiser for international animal welfare organization Animals Asia.

All proceeds from the performance’s ticket sales will be donated to the NGO, directly benefiting animals in Vietnam and China.

Animals Asia, which is this year celebrating its 20-year anniversary, works to put an end to bear bile farming in China and Vietnam. The organization also has programmes addressing cat and dog welfare, and captive animal welfare in those countries. Last week, as part of their work to move all bears who remain on bile farms in Vietnam to sanctuary, Animals Asia rescued 5 moon bears—LeBON, Kim, Mai, Star, and Mekong--who arrived at the organization’s Vietnam Bear Rescue Centre in Tam Dao National Park on Friday.

Spikey, a Double British Comedy Award-winner, BAFTA nominee, co-writer and co-star of the hit British sitcom ‘Phoenix Nights’, and former team captain on “8 out of 10 Cats”, is a long-time devoted supporter of Animals Asia.

Both passionate animal-lovers, Spikey and his wife have each signed up for Animals Asia’s programme to “adopt” a bear and fund its rescue. In 2007 the couple travelled to Vietnam and China to visit cruel bear bile farms, as well as two bear rescue centres run by Animals Asia.

Having seen first-hand the tragedy of bear bile farming, and Animals Asia’s commitment to rescuing the bears, caring for them at the NGO’s state-of-the-art sanctuaries, Spikey has committed to donating all proceeds from his Leicester Square Theatre performance to Animals Asia.
