Some of the funniest performers in comedy are to join Battersea Arts Centre’s Phoenix Season in two special shows in its newly reopened Grand Hall on Monday 23 September and Monday 9 December. The nights will feature Netflix star Phil Wang, the UK’s latest Hollywood export Lolly Adefope, double Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee Kieran Hodgson, Mock The Week regulars Angela Barnes, Ivo Graham and Ed Gamble, and Barry Award nominee Rose Matafeo, with many more still to be announced.
Battersea Arts Centre’s Grand Hall reopens this September after it was destroyed by fire in March 2015. Phoenix Comedy will be the first live comedy to play in the renewed hall, with two nights which celebrate the rich comedic history of the building and bring together a diverse mix of the most exciting comedians working today.
On Monday 23 September, Ivo Graham (Live At The Apollo, Live From The BBC, Mock The Week) hosts, introducing Phil Wang (Netflix’s The Comedy Line-Up, Live At The Apollo, Have I Got News For You), Angela Barnes (Mock The Week regular, host of BBC Radio 4’s Newsjack, Live At The Apollo), and Rose Matafeo (Have I Got News For You, W1A, Unspun with Matt Forde), with a very special guest to be announced.
On Monday 9 December, Ed Gamble (Mock The Week, Roast Battle, Almost Royal) welcomes to the Grand Hall two of the best character comedians: Lolly Adefope (Taskmaster, Damned, QI) and Kieran Hodgson (two-time Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee & star of BBC2’s Two Doors Down), plus Mark Watson and more names still to be announced.
Battersea Arts Centre has long supported ambitious, bold comedy, having hosted work from the likes of Daniel Kitson, Stewart Lee, John Kearns and Josie Long. Daniel Kitson comperes and curates A Grand Night Out: Comedy Fundraiser on 28 January 2019, in support of Battersea Arts Centre.
