News: Tributes Come In For Comedian Eurydice Dixon

Tributes have been paid to 22-year-old comedian Eurydice Dixon who was murdered on her way home from a show in Melbourne at the Highlander Bar.

Julia Morris wrote: "I am absolutely shattered to hear of the despicable death of Eurydice Dixon. Our comedy community is like a family & this news is beyond heart breaking. My deepest condolences go to her family and friends. An important and funny voice has been extinguished. Vale Eurydice Dixon Jx"

Meshel Laurie tweeted: "When I was a 22 year old comedian, I constantly walked home alone from gigs in the middle of the night because I couldn't afford tram fare, let alone taxis. Should we allow murderous rapists and poverty to ensure we're locked inside for our entire lives?"

Nelly Thomas wrote: "RIP dear girl & may the rest of us mourn this terrible loss & then STEP THE FUCK UP to stop this terrorism on women. What else can one say"

Alex Lee wrote: "My first stand up set when I was the same age as Eurydice Dixon, was about being afraid walking home at night. Making jokes about it was a way to feel slightly empowered instead of small and frightened. Mourning for this young comedian who was entitled to feel safe."

Greg Fleet tweeted: "Devastated to hear about Eurydice Dixon. That a young Comic who had just spent the night making people happy could meet with such a vile fate."

A man has reportedly handed himself in to police and has been charged with one count of rape and one count of murder.
