News: Live Shows And DVD Recording for Festival Of The Spoken Nerd

Festival of the Spoken Nerd are bringing their latest show You Can’t Polish A Nerd back to London for Spring/Summer 2018. Full of hilarious facts and informative jokes, the trio attempt to find the absolute global maximum of geekiness using science, songs and spherical geometry along the way. You Can’t Polish A Nerd will be at Underbelly Festival, South Bank on 3rd May, 6th June and 4th July, and the show will be recorded for DVD and download at the Arts Depot, North Finchley on 27th and 28th June, for release later this year.

Since their last UK tour and run of shows at the Soho Theatre, experiments maestro Steve Mould, geek songstress Helen Arney and stand-up mathematician Matt Parker have gone toomainstream. They’ve accidentally ended up on BBC Two’s QI, and created a genuinely “experimental” comedy show for BBC Radio 4 called Domestic Science which saw its second series in February. This June the Spoken Nerds will share a stage with Robin Ince and astronaut Chris Hadfield at the Royal Albert Hall in June 15.

Together they’ll be going full nerd, buffing up a veritable Periodic Table of science comedy nuggets from making musical lasers to measuring pi with an actual pie, mathematically impossible footballs to space lullabies, and radioactive bananas to inappropriate use of a microwave – all in the name of science. Don’t miss the “resplendently geeky trio” (The Times) as they put the “oooh” into zoology, the “fun” into fundamental theorem of calculus and the “recursion” into recursion.

Festival of the Spoken Nerd said: "Underbelly Festival is always a highlight of our year. The South Bank’s open air, combined with the open bars, means that we always get a giant purple tent full of nerds (and non-nerds) at these shows, ready to have their brains tickled by science and their ribs tickled by comedy.

Filming our third tour show is also emotional. By committing You Can’t Polish A Nerd to a digital download format - not to mention the most versatile of digital discs - we're also saying goodbye. It's the last hurrah for a show we've worked on for years and we’re looking forward to one final glorious outing."
