News: Netflix Comedy For Idris Elba

Actor Idris Elba is set to front a new comedy for Netflix.

Turn Up Charlie is an eight-part series executive produced by Elba and Gary Reich. According to Deadline the show "sees Elba play Charlie, a struggling DJ and eternal bachelor, who’s given a final chance at success when he reluctantly becomes a manny to his famous best friend’s problem-child daughter."

The star of the gritty cop drama Luther (pictured) is currently starring in the autobiographical sitcom In The Long Run on Sky One.

Netflix has also just announced a number of international comedy shows. These include Génération Q, a French comedy series directed by Noémie Saglio and produced by UNRATED Studios for release later this year. The cast will include rising talents Zita Hanrot (Elsa), Sabrina Ouazani (Charlotte), Joséphine Draï (Emilie) as well as Marc Ruchmann (who will play Jules).

There will also be a second series of the wrestling show GLOW, following the women as they become local celebrities, confronting the good, the bad, and the ugly realities of their newfound fame. As Ruth and Debbie settle into the day-to-day of making a season of TV together, they confront lingering issues at the heart of their friendship. Sam is still Sam, but now he has a teenage daughter living with him and twenty episodes to churn out. The wrestling is harder, the stakes are higher, and the hair is even bigger.
