John Mahoney, the actor best known for playing the father of Frasier Crane in the hit sitcom Frasier has died. He was 77. 

Mahoney, who played Martin Crane for over a decade, died on Sunday, February 4.

While he was best known as an actor in America he had British parents and grew up in Manchester, but as a young adult moved to Illinois.

He was also an early member of the Steppenwolf Theatre Company in Chicago alongside John Malkovich and Gary Sinise.
