News: Amused Moose Launches National New Comic Award

The Amused Moose comedy club is about to launch this year's National New Comic Award. The contest searches out the hottest breakthrough stars in the making. Prebious winners have included Sarah Millican and Jack Whitehall, with finalists including Josh Widdicombe, Romesh Ranganathan, Jimmy Carr, Katherine Ryan, Kevin Bridges and Greg Davies. Pictured here is a fresh-faced teenage Jack Whitehall, holding the trophy in 2007 when it was known as the Amused Moose Laugh Off.

350 entrants from across the UK and Ireland submitted a clip of them performing stand-up or sketches onstage, which were viewed online and sifted by illustrious comedy industry panellists across the UK and around the world.

The highest scoring 80 are about to perform live in quarter finals, every Saturday in February and March, with the top three in each quarter final going through to the semi-finals every Saturday in April at Amused Moose Comedy venues in central London.  Each Saturday there will be a guest appearance by recent finalists and winners, including 2017’s winner Jack Gleadow (7 April), Harriet Braine (14 April) and Alistair Williams (10 Feb).

The quarter finals and semi-finals will be hosted by Alex Zane, Mark Dolan and Ian Smith, with the final taking place during the Edinburgh Fringe, on the evening of Sunday 19 August, at the  Symposium Hall.

Uniquely all the audiences vote, as well as those of our industry panel, during all live rounds of the competition.

As well as all the finalists being given the perfect platform from which to launch their comedy career, the winner of the Amused Moose National New Comic title will also receive a shiny moose trophy, with the opportunity to perform as part of Amused Moose Comedy’s Award Winners Showcases which traditionally takes place in October at Soho Theatre.
