News: BBC Unveils Christmas Radio Comedy Line-Up

BBC Radio has unveiled its Christmas comedy output with a mix of stars and newcomers raising smiles this year.

Among the highlights is Catastrophe and Motherland writer Sharon Horgan teaming up with Beth Ditto and new Dr Who Jodie Whittaker for a show on BBC6 mixing music and laughs and bearing "gifts of wit, wonder and wisdom." 

Count Arthur Strong's Radio Show! Christmas Special 2017 will be broadcast on Christmas Day at 1.15pm.

In Archive on 4: Lenny Henry on Richard Pryor – The Making of a Satirist, Lenny Henry explores the work of Richard Pryor through clips and interviews. December 23, 8pm.

Dud Brothers is a Blood Brothers-inspired, separated at birth story, where Jeremy Corbyn and Jacob Rees-Mogg discover that despite being brought up with opposite political ideologies, they actually have one very significant thing in common... Written by Richie Webb, David Quantick and Dave Cohen it goes out 25 & 26 December at 6.15pm.

On the Asian Network presenter and comedian Guz Khan is joined by Bad Boy Billy to give their version of the much loved Nativity story on Christmas Eve at 1pm. 

There will also be a number of stand-up comedy shows at 9pm on the Asian Network:

Asian Network Comedy from Watford Palace Theatre featuring Tez Ilyas, Amir Koshsokhan, Nabil Abdul Rashid, Sukh Ojla and Aatif Nawaz will air on Tuesday 26 December.

Asian Network Comedy from West Yorkshire Playhouse, Leeds featuring Sindhu Vee, Ahir Shah, Ali Official, Funmbi Omotayo and Isma Almas will air on Wednesday 27 December.

Asian Network Comedy from Edinburgh Fringe, featuring Shazia Mirza, Patrick Monaghan, Kae Kurd, Aditi Mittal and Sunil Patel will air on Thursday 28 December.

Asian Network Comedy from Wolverhampton Lighthouse, featuring Omar Hamdi, Emily Lloyd Saini, Don Biswas, Bilal Zafar and Lovdev Barpaga will air on Friday 29 December.

A͚lan Carr will host a Christmas Special on Radio 2 with Melanie Sykes at 1pm on Christmas Eve and then they are back at 1pm on New Year's Eve.

Other highlights below:  

·         Lenny Henry, Jacob Anderson and Nathan Stewart-Jarrett in Neil Gaiman’s Anansi Boys on Radio 4.

·         Just a Minute celebrates 50 years on Radio 4 this Christmas Day at 6.30pm and then on New Year's Day at 6.15pm Paul Merton interviews Nicholas Parsons.

·         Festive offerings from Infinite Monkey Cage on Radio 4, 25 December, 4pm. 

·         Festive castaways for Desert Island Discs on Radio 4 include Frasier star Kelsey Grammer on December 10 at 11.15am.

·         On Radio 4 Extra are Michael Palin’s Radio Adventures and Scrooge – The Musical.

·         Radio 5 Live highlights include Ed Byrne making his 5 live presenting debut on Christmas Day.
