Jayde Adams and Russell Kane are among the comedians involved in a new Comedy Central UK impro show. The channel has greenlit a pilot created by James “Murr” Murray from the TV show Impractical Jokers, which will also feature guest appearances from The Tenderloins Comedy Troupe.
The one-off, with the working title Say Whaaat?, is being produced by NorthSouth Productions (Impractical Jokers, Say Yes to the Dress) and will air later this year on Comedy Central UK. Shot in front of a live audience at the Tabernacle Theatre in London, the pilot will be hosted by Jayde Adams with guest appearances from Joe Gatto, James Murray, Brian Quinn, Sal Vulcano and Russell Kane, as they combine their improvisation skills with direction from the audience to voiceover secretly shot footage of everyday conversations.
“It was an obvious step for us to commission our own show for Comedy Central created by Murr. Improv is a really hot scene in the UK right now, so developing an improv format with stars of this calibre is an exciting step for the channel,” commented Louise Holmes, Vice President, General Manager, Comedy Central UK. “It’s part of our drive to explore more avenues to bring funny to our viewers as well as bring US and UK talent together.”
The announcement underlines Comedy Central UK’s ongoing push to diversify its British comedy offering and increase the volume of non-scripted comedy it broadcasts, all of which has helped to drive the channel to its current position of the #3 entertainment channel.
Say Whaaat? is being filmed at the Tabernacle in West London on October 4. Fans can apply for free tickets here – you'll find details by going to the 'current shows' page.
