News: Car Share Tops iPlayer Charts

The second series of Peter Kay’s Car Share is BBC iPlayer's biggest comedy of the year so far.

The series came to an end on BBC One last week, but is still available on BBC iPlayer, having been released in full immediately after the first episode aired on 11 April. Figures show that the full series has now exceeded 10.6m requests, a run-away success for BBC iPlayer and the most-requested comedy of 2017.

New viewers are still joining the series as the first episode saw 300,000 new requests after the final episode aired on Tuesday.

Peter Kay says: “We’ve been blown away by the reception for our little show. All we wanted was to make something feel-good and happy so it’s really wonderful it connected with so many people.”

Shane Allen, controller comedy commissioning for the BBC says: “The record-breaking response to Car Share has been phenomenal. Audiences have come at the show from all angles - watching on BBC One and as a full series, and to have such enormous figures for BBC iPlayer alone shows how the public have taken these characters to their hearts.”
