News: No Christmas Special for Peter Kay's Car Share

Despite rumours circulating on social media today that there would be a Christmas special for Car Share Peter Kay has said that the final episode will be the fourth one which is broadcast on BBC1 at 9pm this evening.

Talking to BBC Radio Manchester Kay said that there will be no series three and no Christmas specials: "There's not going to be a series three"

He added: "You've got to get out while the going's good. No Christmas special, no."

When journalist Ian Hyland had speculated on Twitter that there would surely be a Christmas special Car Share fan Scott aka MCGlitterDJ wrote: "They basically said that was the case st (sic) the cinema showing for Comic Relief" - referring the the special charity cinema screenings before the TV version went out. Even after Kay said on radio that there would be no more episodes Hyland was sceptical, tweeting: "Still don't believe it. He's playin' wi' yer mind, cockers."

According to a BBC report Kay also said: "I am absolutely delighted and overwhelmed by everybody's support and the fact that everyone's loved it so much has been wonderful for everyone who's made it, but you're better quitting while you're ahead. There's only so much you can do in a car and the last thing you want to do is ruin it because I think it's a lovely thing. A lot of series tend to go on for one series too many, especially with comedies, and I think people say 'ooh, it's gone off, that'."
