Rarely Asked Questions – Doug Segal

Doug Segal is a comedy mind reader and his latest show is designed to make you feel good with a mix of tricks that will make your brain boggle and jokes that will tickle your funny bone. Apparently the Evening Standard said of him: "Imagine if Derren Brown was funny’". I don't think it was me that said it, but maybe Segal got me to say it after casting a spell on me.

I Can Make You Feel Good is at the Voodoo Rooms from August 5 - 28. Tickets & Info here.

1. What is the last thing you do before you go onstage (apart from check your flies and/or check your knickers aren't sticking out of your skirt and check for spinach between your teeth )?

I neck a can of Red Bull. It’s like Asterix The Gaul’s magic potion for me.

2. What irritates you?

Sand lodged in places it shouldn’t be.

3. What is the most dangerous thing you have ever done?

Agreed to predict the 2012 Olympic final medal tally live on BBC Radio. If I'd got it wrong I'd have Humpty Dumpty level egg on my face & getting it right there was a genuine possibility of me being kidnapped by an Eastern European betting syndicate & being forced to predict major sporting events for them. Fortunately the latter hasn't happened. Yet.

4. What is the most stupid thing you have ever done?

My first ever TV appearance was two live five minute spots on BBC One New Year’s Live to 9.5m people. I thought it was perfectly reasonable to do new and unrehearsed material…..  I got away with it but looking back on it now I'd painted myself into a corner. What was worse was, because it was unrehearsed I over ran on the first spot I managed to stop Evan Davis doing a live report from Edinburgh - Whoops!

5. What has surprised you the most during your career in comedy?

How quickly I got from open mic to closing big rooms - about a year.
