News: Scaling New Comedy Heights
Scottish comedians Gary Little, Chris Forbes and Alan Anderson have performed at the summit of a Scottish mountain for 40 minutes in temperatures as low as 5c in front of fifty comedy fans. They all climbed to the top of Schiehallion, 1,083m (3553ft), to raise funds for Glasgow’s Children’s Hospital Charity (formerly Yorkhill).
The show was for Summit Funny, the UK’s Highest Comedy Gig. Last year there was a performance at the top of Ben Lomond, which this year was beaten by 109m. Schiehallion was chosen as it has strong links with the Glasgow Children’s Hospital where The Schiehallion Ward is a specialist ward for Oncology patients at the Royal Hospital for Children.
The hillwalkers took 2 and a half hours to reach the summit, where they huddled together to enjoy show, a highlight of which was Chris Forbes getting all 50 to sing Scottish football song Coming Round The Mountain. Chris regularly volunteers as a play leader in the hospital's Schiehallion ward
Over a dozen of the audience had never previously climbed a Munro (Scottish mountain over 3000ft), whilst one audience member was on his tenth ascent of Schiehallion, having already completed a full round of 282 Munros.
Workers from Harviestoun Brewery joined the climb and donated cans of their Schielhallion Lager to audience members at the summit.
