News: Scottish Comedy Awards Results

Scot Squad and Breaking The News were the big winners at the Scottish Comedy Awards 2016, held last night in Glasgow’s Blythswood Hotel.

The partially improvised BBC Scotland sitcom Scot Squad won Best TV Show with Chris Forbes scooping Best Comedy Actor for his portrayal as PC Charlie McIntosh.
Scot Squad beat Fern Brady’s BBC Pilot for Radges, the wrestling documentary Insane Fight Club and STV’s Nightshift

Nominated for 3 different radio shows, Des Clarke picked up the Best Radio Show quaich for BBC Radio Scotland’s topical panel show Breaking The News. Regular Breaking the News panelist Keir McAllister won 2 quaichs for Best Radio / TV comedian and Best Comedy Writer.

McAllister pipped Daniel Sloss, Des Clarke and Iain Stirling to the award for Best TV/Radio Comedian which was presented by Best Headliner winner Mark Nelson. Referring to Daniel Sloss, Nelson quipped “ One of the nominees has appeared five times on American TV. Let’s see if these awards are fair then. Nope the winner is Keir McAllister.”

Best Online Comedy went to M.U.F.F. the online horror comedy fronted by Daniel Sloss and Tom Stade. The prize was handed out by Billy Kirwood and Neil “Wee Man” Bratchpiece who both complained that their latest online video had been viewed over a million times in the past week but they didn’t even get a nomination.

Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee and former Scottish Comedian of the Year Larry Dean was pipped for the Best Solo Festival show by Richard Gadd for his Edinburgh Fringe show Waiting For Gaddot. Previously Gadd’s show won the Amused Moose ‘Best Show’ Comedy Award and a Malcolm Hardee Award nomination for Innovation and Originality.
