News: Second Series of Asian Provocateur Confirmed

Romesh Ranganathan has confirmed that there will be a second series of his hit BBC3 series Asian Provocateur.

Posting the news on Twitter Ranganathan wrote "the game just got real: Asian Provocateur is back baby" and linked to a story announcing the news on his website.

This time, however, there is a difference. Ranganathan will be travelling around beyond Sri Lanka and will be joined by his mother Shanthi.

According to the announcement "it took Shanthi twenty years to convince Romesh to travel to Sri Lanka and learn about his heritage. Now Shanthi has convinced Romesh to join her and travel further afield in search of other relatives they’ve never met and explore what his life could have been like if they’d ended up somewhere other than Crawley."

For six weeks they will visit extended family and will be joined by some of the characters Romesh met in the first series for stints along the way. As Shanthi tries to do some late on-set parenting whilst simultaneously expecting him to organise everything, Romesh will return to a petulant teenage state."

Ranganathan said of the new series: “I’m absolutely delighted to be embarking on a second series, mainly to deal with the issue of people repeatedly telling me that my mum is funnier than me. I didn’t want her involved but I’ve been told that if I refuse they’ll do it with just her.”

No release date has been announced at this stage but – this is an educated guess based on the successful transmission of the first series last year – it will probably be available online on BBC3 in the autumn.
