News: Triple-Pronged TV Projects For Romesh Ranganathan

Romesh Ranganathan

Rising star Romesh Ranganathan is currently involved in three different TV projects.

It was announced last week that he will be a regular guest on The Apprentice: You're Fired when Jack Dee takes over from previous host Dara O’Briain for the imminent next series.

Ranganathan will also be fronting his own BBC3 series, Asian Provocateur, in which he visits Sri Lanka, where his family comes from. In a short trailer just released, Ranganathan describes it as “the most elaborate guilt trip my mum has ever sent me on.” The former teacher from Crawley had to cancel his planned Edinburgh Fringe run this summer to travel to Sri Lanka to film the series.

It has also been reported on Chortle that Ranganathan is working on a sitcom for Sky 1 entitled The Landlord, about a criminal barrister who takes over a village pub with inevitable comic consequences as he tries to fit in. Ranganathan is writing the script. It isn't confirmed if he will also star though the lead character is Anglo-Asian.

Ranganathan is also hosting a one-off benefit gig at the Hawth in Crawley on October 20 featuring Jon Richardson, Russell Kane, Seann Walsh, Katherine Ryan, Simon Evans and Suzi Ruffell. All profits will go to the Elkington Family and the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign. Tickets here.
