Disney+ has greenlit the brand-new comedy drama “DAD” from the award-winning independent entertainment company A24 UK (Such Brave Girls, Dreaming Whilst Black). The Hulu Original scripted series (6x50’) is created and written by Clem Garritty (The Rachel Incident, Life is Strange) and will follow three grown-up siblings who lives are irreversibly changed when their father is accused of a historic murder committed during their childhood.
As their understanding of childhood is turned on its head and the pressures of adult life close in, Sammy, Ned and Jess are forced back together to uncover the secrets buried deep within their family's past. In doing so, they must confront the harsh and often uncomfortably hilarious realities of the present.
Lee Mason, Vice-President, Scripted, Disney+ EMEA, added: “DAD is a bold, brilliantly original series that takes a dark and emotionally complex premise and turns it into something deeply compassionate, surprising and sharply funny. At its heart, this is a story about family, identity and the unsettling question of how well we can ever really know the people who shape us. We are excited to work with Clem and the brilliant team at A24 to bring this unique story to Disney+ audiences.”
DAD is the latest UK Original commission for Disney+, joining critically acclaimed scripted titles such as the International Emmy® and BAFTA® Award-winning ‘Rivals’, which has just been recommissioned for a third season, and the recent CANNESERIES winning wrong-com ‘Alice and Steve’.
“DAD” was commissioned by Angela Jain, Head of Content, Disney+ EMEA and Lee Mason, Vice-President, Scripted, Disney+ EMEA. It will be produced by A24 with Clem Garritty as writer and creator. In addition to many successful on-screen projects, Clem is the Artistic Director of comedy company Kill the Beast and directed all three of the company’s critically acclaimed, award-winning shows.
Robust parental controls ensure that Disney+ remains a suitable viewing experience for everyone in the family. Subscribers can set access limits on mature content and create PIN-protected profiles alongside the already existing Junior Mode profiles to give parents and guardians peace of mind.
Cast and streaming date to be announced.
