This summer London's House hosts Laughterama, a major new comedy festival starring the country's most established and exciting emerging talents in a series of ground-breaking mixed-bill comedy shows.
In partnership with 57, it is the first time that Somerset House has presented comedy.
From 29th July to 2nd August the spectacular Edmond J Safra Fountain Court will showcase a glittering line-up of the biggest and brightest comedians of the moment across seven uniquely curated open-air shows.
The full-line up is set to be announced, with tickets on sale this month.
The five-night festival will present an array of top-tier talent with each show stacked with arena-filling headliners, international legends, fan-favourite screen and podcast stars, as well as the next generation of must-see acts.
Set to be a summer highlight for the capital, this hotly-tipped festival follows the success of the Manchester-based event of the same name.
Since 2022 Laughterama Manchester has presented an impressive roll-call of high-octane entertainers with previous names including stand-up wonder JAMES ACASTER, multimedia maestro ADAM BUXTON, This Way Up’s AISLING BEA, the legendary STEWART LEE, stand-up titan FRANKIE BOYLE, acclaimed multi-talent JOANNE MCNALLY, Qi legend DARA O’BRIAIN as well as comedy heavyweights such as cult comic/poet TIM KEY, Live At The Apollo’s MICHELLE DE SWARTE, viral sensations SARAH KEYWORTH and JEN BRISTER, plus ascending superstars like Edinburgh Fringe stormers LI JIN HAO, MOLLY MCGUINESS and CELYA AB.
Behind this comedy powerhouse is South London’s 57 led by sibling-team Will Briggs and Cass Randolph, who have been producing sell-out festivals across the country since 2009, beginning with their inaugural Greenwich Comedy Festival, which draws more than 15,000 comedy lovers to the grounds of the Old Royal Naval College each year.
Since then, the pair have built a comedy empire, delivering sell-out summer festivals in Bristol, Cambridge, Brighton, St Albans and Norwich, alongside a year-round programme of shows in venues across the country. Their critically acclaimed festival format brings together the very best in stand-up within a boutique setting, complemented by quality bars and street food.
With more than 100,000 tickets sold each year, their success is a clear sign of the country’s appetite for live entertainment, and for shared moments of laughter on a grand scale.
Cass says: “We’re thrilled to be bringing these shows to such an iconic location. Pairing world-class programming with striking backdrops is at the heart of what we do, and it doesn’t get much better than this.”
Will says: “These shows will be huge — since starting our festivals we’ve dreamt of bringing one to Somerset House, and we have an incredible line-up to mark the first year. It’s all set to be the jewel in our comedy crown”
Jonathan Reekie, Director of Somerset House says: “We’re delighted to be welcoming Laughterama to Somerset House for the very first time this summer for what will be an exciting addition to our programme of exhibitions and live music. The unique setting of the Somerset House courtyard will be the perfect location to host some of the most trailblazing comedians and their fans.”
