World's Funniest Crab Joke Revealed

World's Funniest Crab Joke Revealed

The funniest crab joke in the world has been revealed by the Crab Museum in Margate.

Following a recent competition the entries have been judged by an all-star panel and the results announced.

And the winning gag is: “Why did the crab cross the road? It didn’t. It used the sidewalk.” The entrant is, at this stage, anonymous.

Second place went: "Man walks into a restaurant with a crab under his arm and says, ‘Do you make crab cakes?’ Manager answers, ‘Yes, we do.’ ‘Good,’ says the man, ‘because it’s his birthday.’”

Joint third went to: “Why didn’t the crab help the chicken cross the road? Because it was eaten by a pelican crossing,” and: “What format do you have to save photos of crab soup on to? Floppy bisque.”

More details here.

International Crab Day was 26th April and the competition was a joint event from Europe’s only Crab Museum and Chump’s Comed.

Panelists included comedians Sally Phillips, Harry Hill, Rose Matafeo, Phil Wang, No Such Thing As A Fish podcast, Mike Stirling (Director of Mischief at Beano), Palaeoanthropologist/comedian Ella Al-Shamahi, zoologist & presenter Lucy Cooke, and a classroom of kids at Ramsgate Arts Primary School. With more to be announced - including a secret mystery judge!

A statement from the venue was as follows: "a crab joke contest may sound silly, but humour can be a powerful tool for engaging the public in bigger issues such as climate change, biodiversity collapse, or finding out where crabs poo from".

Crab Museum is an award-winning, free-to-enter and completely independent science museum in Margate, Kent. It uses crabs, humour and philosophy to engage children and adults alike with the vast weirdness of life itself. It has been featured in the Guardian, the New York Times, the New Statesman and welcomed around 80,000 visitors over the last year. Crab Museum believes that learning about science doesn’t need to be stuffy, inaccessible or boring - it can be fun, unexpected and radical too.

The Crab Museum owners were recent guests on Dan Schreiber's podcast 'We Can Be Weirdos' where they announced the competition. That episode can be found here: https://podfollow.com/1687199754
