Guests on The Jonathan Ross Show this week are Oscar nominated star of Spider-Man and new dystopian epic Civil War, Kirsten Dunst, the star of hotly anticipated Amy Winehouse biopic Back To Black Marisa Abela along with the movie’s director, Sam Taylor-Johnson, comedian and best-selling children’s author David Walliams, and YouTuber, rapper and presenter Yung Filly. Plus Madness will be performing in the studio.

David Walliams has a new book out and it would be unlikely that he will get a tough grilling from Ross so I guess it's a pretty good place to promote it. He's always got plenty to talk about but it will be interesting to see what direction the conversation takes. I've interviewed Walliams before and always found him to be pretty open, but he's also intriguing. There have been various stories about a Little Britain reunion with Walliams working with Matt Lucas again so it would be good to hear more about that.

Walliams' latest book Astrochimp is his debut comic strip fiction, a "wildly funny, action-packed" space adventure which features full-colour illustrations by Adam Stower. It will be published on 23rd May 2024 in hardback, with simultaneous e-book and audio editions.

"Blast off with Chump the chimpanzee as he sets off on a deadly-dangerous mission to orbit Earth – what could possibly go wrong?! As it turns out, everything. The stage is set for an epic extraterrestrial rocket ride of a story, featuring dog space pirates, evil insects and the silliest chimpanzee who ever lived."

With The Graham Norton Show taking a break this is an opportunity for Ross to reassert himself as the best chat show host on television. Of course being a good host also depends on having the right guests. I was watching an old Michael Parkinson compilation the other night on BBC4 which pulled together various encounters with Peter Ustinov. In fairness to this week's Ross guests, they might be entertaining in their own ways, but I don't think they will have the same sort of anecdotes as ultimate polymath Ustinov. But then who has?

The Jonathan Ross Show, Saturdays, 9.35pm, ITV1.
