Rob Beckett Explains How Difficult It Was Going To The Brits As A Giraffe

Comedian Rob Beckett has revealed how complicated it was going to the Brit Awards dressed as a giraffe.

Beckett was talking to Lorraine Kelly on her ITV morning show to promote his new TV show Rob Beckett's Smart TV and his new tour – entitled Giraffe – when the subject turned to his show-stealing appearance at the Brits on Sunday at the 02 Arena.

"Basically I got invited to the Brits but when you're a 38 year old comedian at the Brits no one really cares. The reason I'm going is to promote my new tour called giraffe so I thought I'll dress ike that and everyone took photos and spoke to me about it.

I thought it would be quite funny but I was scared to do it. I got there and then I was panicking. I was sat in a taxi outside the O2 in a flaccid giraffe costume and the nerves went through the roof and then I took the spare batteries and I got out and I just thought I want to go to the Brits dressed as a giraffe but that's not really me, that's not the kind of thing I do. However, it's not the kind of person you are until it is a person you are so I went to the Brits and and got in the paper and hopefully sold a few tickets by the time I was back home watching Gladiators in the morning with the kids. Job done .

Then I shoved it under the table when I got to the table. There was all the actors there, like the guy who played Bob Marley, Ashley Walters from Top Boy, people from Downtown Abbey. I was in normal clothes and they were going 'did you see that stupid idiot in a giraffe costume?'"
