Sunday Brunch Guests This Week

Sunday Brunch Guests This Week

Interesting bunch of guests on Sunday Brunch this week – Gemma Whelan, Munya Chawawa, Boyzlife, Ashley and Jordan Banjo and music from Kawala.

It always strikes me as funny that Gemma Wheln is most famous these days for playing  Yara Greyjoy in Game of Thrones and appearing in numerous other groundbreaking dramas. I first saw her at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe when she was doing comedy characters, grotesque creations which suggested she had a dark, quirky and very creative mind.

I always expected Gemma Whelan to do well, I just didn't expect it would be outside comedy. It was also recently revealed that she also voiced a character in Elden Ring. She lent her voice to Lady Tanith, who you encounter upon entering Volcano Manor. She’ll ask you if you’d like to join the Volcano Manor family, to which you should say yes. Upon doing so, you’ll receive the Drawing-Room Key, which provides access to the other dorms in the area, allowing you to pursue various side missions and obtain valuable items.

She also pops up in racy BBC drama Gentleman Jack as Marian, the sister of Anne Lister (Suranne Jones).Marian, played by Whelan is very different to her bossy sibling.

Munya Chawawa has been one of the breakthrough comedy stars in the last few years, regularly going viral with his rapid response topical clips, such as spoofing Matt Hancock's romantic office antics with the aid of Shaggy's It Wasn't Me. I've got a personal connection with Chawawa.Well, sort of. I think he must live close to me in south London as a few of his short films have featured streets very near to me. I keep expecting to look out my bedroom window and see him dancing down the street filming himself on his smartphone. Most recently he posted a clip about Will Smith and Chris Rock.

Chawawa is so successful now that he does feel the pressure of having to come up with something quickly whenever a news story breaks. Speaking exclusively to Metro.co.uk, Munya said: "I kinda just pendulum between feeling a little bit of pressure and then feeling very flattered that people have gone, 'Munya we trust in your skillset to make us laugh. That is like a huge privilege when I think about it.'"

Sunday Brunch, Sunday, April 17, 9.30am, C4.
