Janey Godley Issues Statement Following Storm Over Past Tweets

Janey Godley has postponed her upcoming dates this weekend. The Scottish comedian posted a picture of herself in hospital on social media and explained why.

"Sorry but my last weekend of the tour can’t go ahead in Edinburgh and Musselburgh as I am in hospital with ovarian cancer - look after each other #MentalHealthMatters"

Her daughter, stand-up Ashley Storrie, was quick to comment on Twitter too: "Devastation doesn't touch the edges of how I feel right now. Thank you to all the amazing NHS staff who've been looking after mum and helped her come to terms with this terrifying news."

Fellow comedians were swift to show their support and to send Godley their best wishes.

Richard Herring, who recently had successful treatment fo testicular cancer posted: "Hey Janey. I smacked cancer’s arse this year and it only got one bite out of me. You are a thousand times stronger than me and I know you will wallop this Trump. Rest up, take care. Come back stronger. Much lov xx"

Dawn French wrote: "Love to you Janey xx"

Angela Barnes tweeted: "I'm so sorry to hear this Janey - sending all the love and strength to you and the family xxx"

Alistair Barrie tweeted: "Ah shit Janey. Speaking as someone who lives with someone who made it past a very similar bastard, we both wish you all the very best. The treatment, the doctors, what they can do is amazing. So are you. See you on the other side."

David Baddiel added: "Sorry to hear that Janey. All best."

Emma Kennedy tweeted:"Oh Janey. I’m so sorry to hear this. I hope you’re being well supported and looked after. All love and strength to you."

Mark Thomas wrote: "Get well my darling and get back to giving ‘em both barrels ASAP! X"

Glenn Wool referenced Godley's legendary toughness and tweeted: "Big love Janey. You’ll get through this. I kinda feel sorry for the cancer. It’s got no idea who it’s fucking with."
