News: UK Tour for Jason Cook

Jason Cook

Comedian Jason Cook has announced an autumn tour of the UK for his latest show, entitled Broken. The winner of the ‘Best Drama’ at the Royal Television Awards for his BBC2 series ‘Hebburn’ starts his tour on October 3 at the Gala Theatre in Durham and finishing on November 11 at the Edinburgh Stand.

According to his press release, Jason Cook is broken – "his work, family and comedy have all conspired to create a shell of a man who is unable to interact in society without being told exactly what to do. Despite this he keeps searching for the joy of life and uses the trials and tribulations some might moan about to turn his life into a richer and happier one. The show explores change and how we might resist it with the evolution of life being the key to eternal happiness."

After successive critically acclaimed runs at the Edinburgh Fringe, Jason’s ‘Hebburn’ ("One of the best comedies around" - The Sunday Times)  ran for two series on BBC2. It starred Vic Reeves, Gina McKee, Kimberley Nixon, Chris Ramsey and Jason himself. It is now being shown in Canada, Australia and all over Europe. 'Hebburn' has also been sold to Happy Madison Productions (Rules of Engagement/The Goldbergs), which is part owned by Adam Sandler, for development in America for ABC. Scriptwriter Tom Hertz has been brought in to work on the script.

Jason Cook started in comedy with a Newcastle sketch troupe known as Soup, before moving into stand-up around Tyneside, regularly compering Newcastle’s Hyena Club. He was one half of spoof German techno band Die Clatterschenkenfietermaus and in 2007 he took his first solo stand up show, Confessions, to the Edinburgh Fringe.  He was nominated best compere in the 2010 Chortle awards. He has hosted the New Zealand Christmas Stand Up Gala, wrote the BBC ‘Feed my Funny’ pilot ‘C-Bomb’ and created and recorded his own Radio 4 series ‘Jason Cook's School of Hard Knocks’.
